The Tollemache is the English National County Teams Championship, for teams of 8. Each county enters one team.
Cambs & Hunts finished 8th (of 8) in the final on 16th February 2002.
The qualifying round was held on 24-25th November 2001. Chris Larlham reports:
The qualifying round for the Tollemache Cup (the annual inter-county competition for teams of 8) was held in Coventry over the weekend. Cambs & Hunts found itself in the only 9-team group (from which two teams qualify for the final next February) and, having failed to qualify last year, were not seeded.
The results were as follows:
Opponents | IMPs | VPs | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Avon | 93 | - | 91 | 10 | - | 10 | ||
Derbyshire | 160 | - | 55 | 19 | - | 1 | ||
Hereford | 176 | - | 29 | 20 | - | 0 | ||
Manchester | 145 | - | 90 | 16 | - | 4 | ||
Merseyside & Cheshire | 83 | - | 129 | 5 | - | 15 | ||
Norfolk | 139 | - | 61 | 18 | - | 2 | ||
Nottinghamshire | 111 | - | 122 | 9 | - | 11 | ||
Worcestershire | 177 | - | 139 | 15 | - | 5 |
Our total of 112 VPs was enough to win the group, 3 VPs clear of Merseyside & Cheshire and about 20 clear of the third-placed team.
Our team was:
Chris Jagger (+127)
John Young (+127)
Jonathan Mestel (+47)
Rod Oakford (+47)
Fiske Warren (+46)
Catherine Jagger (+33)
David Kendrick (-4)
Roger Gibbons (-17)
(The figures in brackets are the Butler scores for the weekend).
Commiserations to Julian Wightwick and Giles Woodruff, who were originally part of a team of 10 but who had to withdraw when Julian was unwell.
The other qualifiers for the final are Gloucs, Hants & IOW, Kent, Lancashire, Surrey (last year's winners and the only seeded team to qualify) and Warwickshire.
