Cambs & Hunts Contract Bridge Association News 2000 / 2001

11th June 2001: LAST (Peter Last, Bryan Last, Kiki Allen & David Allen) beat DE SOUZA (Andy De Souza, Michal Vine, Teymour Tahseen, David Collier) by 61 IMPs to win the County Teams Plate.

10th June 2001: Jonathan Mestel & Rod Oakford won the Jubilee Swiss Pairs. Ann Curtin & John Turner finished 2nd after leading up to the last round.

5th June 2001: ZAKRZEWSKI beat GREIG by 14 IMPs to win the County Teams Knockout. Congratulations to Sonia Zakrzewski, Gareth Birdsall, Alastair Brodie & Don McFarlane.

27th May 2001: Chris Jagger & John Young came 6th in the Championship Pairs at the Spring Bank Holiday Congress. Catherine Jagger was 7th, playing with Sharleen Robson.

20th May 2001: Victor Milman & Nadia Stelmashenko finished on the winning side as part of the County team in the friendly match between England and Sweden in Stockholm.

19th May 2001: Cambridge University finished 2nd in the regional final of the Garden Cities and have qualified for the national final.

29th April 2001: Cambs & Hunts lost all three matches in the Eastern Counties League match against Hertfordshire.

24th April 2001: Cambridge University beat Cambridge 2 by 2 IMPs to win the county final of the Garden Cities and qualify for the regional final.

22nd April 2001: Chris & Catherine Jagger finished 2nd in the National Pairs Final, narrowly failing to keep the title in Cambs & Hunts.

16th April 2001: Gareth Birdsall & Rachel Wade came 4th in the National Under-25 Pairs.

16th April 2001: Some good results from Cambs & Hunts Players at the Easter Festival of Bridge.

1st April 2001: Cambridge retain the Swiss Teams Club Challenge. Peter Morgan, Frank Padgett, Derek Oxbrow & Kath Haddock were the leading team of four.

31st March 2001: David Todd & Elaine Wilson won the New Players Tournament.

22nd March: Saffron Walden have retained the South Cambs League.

25th February: Cambs & Hunts lost both matches in the Eastern Counties league match against Cambridge University (A team lost 5-7, B team lost 4-8).

25th February: The regional heat of the Golfprint Trophy is complete. St Neots beat Girton in the county final but did not qualify from the regional final.

11th February 2001: Cambs & Hunts lost two matches and drew one in the Eastern Counties league match against Northants (A team drew 6-6, B team lost 3-9, C team lost 4-8).

4th February 2001: Ross Midgley and Niel Pimblett won the County Pairs Final.

28th January 2001: John Young finished 3rd in the National Men's Pairs. Chris Jagger and Giles Woodruff were 5th.

28th January 2001: David Carmichael won the County Individual Final.

21st January 2001: David Kendrick came third in the National Swiss Teams. Chris Jagger and John Young were 8th.

31st December 2000: Some good results from Cambs & Hunts players in the London end of year congress. Gerard Thompson and Michael Ashe were 2nd in the Open Pairs and teamed with Gareth Birdsall and Rachel Wade to finish 4th in the Swiss Teams. Chris Jagger was 7th in the Men's Pairs.

17th December 2000: Cambs & Hunts lost two matches and drew one in the Eastern Counties league match against Norfolk (A team lost 1-11, B team lost 2-10, C team drew 6-6).

10th December 2000: David Kendrick's team lost the final of the Gold Cup 138 - 108 to a very strong team including Tony Forrester and the Hackett twins.

26th November 2000: Cambs & Hunts narrowly failed to qualify for the Tollemache final.

12th November 2000: Cambs & Hunts won two matches and lost one in the Eastern Counties league match against Essex (A team won 8-4, B team won 10-2, C team lost 3-9).

29th October 2000: The Cambs & Hunts Open Swiss Teams was won by Dave & Liz Kendrick, Peter & Myra Burrows.

15th October 2000: Catherine Jagger came 4th in the English Women's Trials Stage 1, playing with Sarah Teshome.

15th October 2000: Cambs & Hunts won one match, lost one and drew one in the Eastern Counties league match against Hertfordshire (A team won 11-1, B team drew 6-6, C team lost 4-8).

October 2000: John Young finished third in the 1999/2000 Masterpoint Trophy. He finished first in terms of green points only (if English Bridge is correct) or 2nd (if the County Newsletter is correct)! The category winners for Cambs & Hunts were:

30th September 2000: Giles Woodruff and Gerard Thompson were part of the winning team in the Hertfordshire / EBU Swiss Teams.

24th September 2000: Cambridge A (Chris Jagger, Catherine Jagger, John Young, Ed Linfield) beat Bradford D by 6 IMPs to win the National Inter-Club Knock-Out (NICKO).

21st August 2000: Good results from Cambs & Hunts players in the Brighton Congress.  John Young & Chris Jagger 7th in Swiss Pairs.  Giles Woodruff 4th in Swiss Teams.  Chris Jagger, Catherine Jagger, John Young win Brighton Bowl.

16th July 2000: Cambs & Hunts lost two matches and drew one in the Eastern Counties league match against Suffolk (A team lost 2-10, B team lost 4-8, C team drew 6-6).

2nd July 2000: Cambs & Hunts lost all three matches in the Eastern Counties league match against Bedfordshire (A team lost 4-8, B team lost 1-11, C team lost 4-8).

25th June 2000: Chris Jagger, Ed Linfield, Julian Wightwick and John Young, winners of the County Knockout, finished 4th in the Pachabo.

11th June 2000: Ken and Sheila Barker won the Millennium Trophy pairs organised by Balsham bridge club.  £1,048 was raised for the EBU's charity for this year: Save the Children.
